
Idris Elba, Black Sherif, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and other celebrities accompanied Vice President Kamala Harris during her visit to the Vibrate studio at the Freedom Skatepark in Accra, Ghana, as part of her weeklong tour of Africa. The visit was aimed at highlighting the growth, talent, and evolution of African creatives and the creative industry in Africa.
During the event, Lee performed “Endangered Species,” after which she emphasized the importance of investing in oneself and their art. Elba, who has previously spoken about supporting and investing in African creatives, expressed his appreciation for Harris’s visit and stated that it signaled a fantastic place for partnership and investment.
The event also gathered a crowd of creatives, including Baaba J, Ria Boss, and Moses Sumney. They also embarked on a meet and greet interaction with the cast of the popular YOLO TV series.
Harris’s visit to Ghana was part of her three-day official state visit to Africa aimed at deepening America’s relationship with some countries on the continent. Her trip kicked off on Sunday, March 26, 2023, with her arrival in Ghana, followed by Tanzania and Zambia before returning to the U.S. on Sunday.
The visit highlights the importance of investing in Africa’s creative industry, recognizing and showcasing the talent and evolution of African creatives to the world.
